Where does this speed come from? The FBG.NL server is an Intel Celeron 400 with 256 MB memory a 9.1 IBM Ultra-Wide SCSI harddrive. Not the speediest of configurations! But with RedHat Linux, Apache webserver, the MySQL database server and Torque's database programming such hardware is no bottleneck.

This server has been running with 2 hours downtime since early 1999. The downtime was due to a move to a new hosting facility and one reboot due to an update to the core operating system. So it's safe to say GNU/Linux provides a very reliable server OS to run a combined web- and database server on.

Prudence borders on paranoia where data protection is concerned. Our servers are protected by 128 bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Secure Shell (SSH). Security is monitored and and maintained by our networking security staff.
